Plato’s School Board consists of staff, parents and non-parents. The Board meets every other month, and Plato parents are welcome to attend meetings.

After graduating from Drake University in 1993, Rick taught middle school at Plato Academy for 8 years. He left teaching to attend law school at The John Marshall Law School in 2001, and was elected to the Plato Academy School Board in 2001. In 2003, he returned to Plato Academy as the middle school math and science teacher for the second semester of the school year when a teacher had to leave due to a medical issue. After graduating from law school in 2005, Rick worked as a litigating attorney first for State Farm, then for a prominent plaintiff’s firm in Chicago, and then as a defense attorney at The Kitch Firm in 2009. In 2018 he became an Equity Shareholder of the Kitch Firm. He focuses his law practice on all aspects of risk management and litigation for post-acute care providers and their partner corporations. In 2004, Rick became the President of the Plato Academy School Board and served in that position until 2018, when he resigned and nominated Filisa Mantas to be President. Currently, Rick has two children who attend Plato Academy.

Taija graduated from Bradley University in 2008, where she also worked as a student writer for Bradley Hilltopics, the university’s alumni magazine. Upon graduating, she continued her internship with Caterpillar for two months before joining their Wamego, KS, facility as a full-time communications rep. In 2012, Taija began working for CPA Practice Advisor, a national accounting magazine. She continued writing for them as an assistant editor part-time, even after leaving to work as a communications specialist for a coupon settlement company in 2013. Taija and her husband joined the Plato family in 2015 when they enrolled their two daughters as students. Taija is active on the PTO and joined Plato’s staff in 2017, overseeing the website and yearbook. She also works for The Bridge Community Church as a groups coordinator and producer during weekend services, and continues to create content for special events and her blog in her free time. Her daughters continue to attend Plato Academy.
