Welcome to Dr. Michael’s Classroom!
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Plato Academy!
My name is Dr. Michael Flynn. I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. I became a teacher in 1993 after working as a custodian for the Chicago Public Schools for 10 years. Prior to coming to Plato Academy, I worked at Amelia Earhart Specialty School and James Otis World Language Academy in Chicago, retiring in 2016. I have two children, Shannon and Neil, along with two grandchildren Violet and Anthony.
As a youth, I attended Catholic schools through eighth grade and went to Curie High School on the southwest side of Chicago, graduating in 1978. I attended college at the University of Illinois (Chicago) and obtained my PhD in Educational Policy from there in 2012.
A lifelong musician, I have an extensive guitar collection and still play every day. I also enjoy teaching, writing, reading, skiing, working out at the health club, cycling, traveling and playing chess. I have been with my wife Annie since 2001. I am happy to have found Plato Academy as I believe that children learn best when they are happy and engaged.
