Our Curriculum:
MIDDLE SCHOOL (5th - 8th)

Humanities

Emphasis is placed on students becoming good communicators, both oral and written. They are presented with literature that encourages them to engage in critical thinking and to consider multiple perspectives. Socratic discussions promote the opportunity to develop self-expression and moral responsiveness. Students are encouraged to take initiative and work autonomously and collaboratively toward accomplishing the goal of knowing.

Social Studies

Students develop a knowledge and appreciation of the past and come to understand the role of history in shaping the present and the future.

Greek & Latin

Students at Plato study Latin and Greek to better understand the English language. We also believe that a quality education is a classical one and, therefore Plato Academy students are exposed to the Classics, both language and literature. Latin and Greek studies encompass not only the study of language but also the influence of Greek and Latin throughout history. The study of Modern Greek is a study of heritage and includes History, Geography, Mythology, and written and oratorical learning.

Mathematics

According to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, mathematical competence opens the doors to productive futures. Our curriculum offers students the opportunity to engage in complex mathematical tasks with confidence. Our goal is for students to value mathematics and to become resourceful problem solvers.

Science

Science is a dynamic process involving discovery, experimentation and the construction of new knowledge. Our science curriculum is inquiry based and involves student imagination, inventiveness, experimentation and the use of logic. Because scientific knowledge is ever changing, students are encouraged to use problem-solving skills to generate and evaluate alternatives.

The Arts

Students are provided opportunities for self-expression and collaboration through classes like Music, Theatre, Art, and Band.
